 Actions:

Kanamycin is an antibiotic of the aminoglycoside group with a bactericidal action mainly against Gram-negative bacteria (e.g. E. coli, salmonella spp., Pasteurella spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris, Enterobacter aerogenes, Brucella spp., Klebsiella spp., Aerobacter spp., Vibrio). Kanamycin's Gram-positive spectrum includes Staphylococcus spp. and Corynebacterium spp..

Indications:

infections of the respiratory tract, the urinary tract, the genital tract, and gastro-intestinal tract (e.g. by E. coli and Salmonella)-septicaemia-infections of soft tissues and skin-wound infections-polyarthritis-mastitis (e.g.by E. coli and Staphylococci).

Contra-indications:

renal insufficiency.

Hypersensitivity to aminoglycosides

Dasage and administration:

By intramuscular, subcutaneous or in very acute cases by slow intravenous injection: according to the severity of the disease 5 to 10 mg kanamycin per kg b.w.2 times daily for at least 3 days or:

cattle, horses:	5ml per 100kg b.w
calves, pigs, sheep, goats:	2.5-5ml per 50kg b.w.
cats, dogs, poultry (preferably by S.C.inj.):	0.25-0.5ml per 5kg b.w.

For the treatment of endometritis in large animals:

by intrauterine infusion: 5-10 ml diluted in 50-100ml of physiological saline.

For treatment of mastitis in cows:

by intramammary infusion: 2-5 ml diluted in 20-50 ml per quarter.
